The energies of Masculine & Feminine exist as an undercurrent throughout all of life; with the masculine energies of action, strength, and courage and the feminine embodying the waves of the emotion, of harmony, of loving and nurturing energies.
Masculine & Feminine is present in the lunar and nature cycles, and even within the Creator God whom, although often defined as our Heavenly Father, still embodies both roles.
It is this energy I wish to explore within this blog post today as well as demonstrating why it is important to honour, embody, and embrace within your own life in addition to recommendations for how best to apply them.
Dualities are ever present in life and are both essential and fundamental for the existence of the other – day and night, light and dark, good and bad, inhale and exhale, masculine and feminine. One cannot be without the other and no matter whom you are the energy of both masculine and feminine reside within you and are necessary for balance, fulfillment, and harmony within your own life.
Masculine energy is further defined as the harder, hotter, firey yang energy necessary to to do, to think, to take effort and forward motion. Feminine energy is cooler, softer yin energy responsible for feeling, being, receiving, surrendering, and flowing.
The lunar cycles are an excellent example of masculine & feminine embodiment and a great resource to turn too to learn how to regulate and honour this energy within your own soul. Every new moon is masculine at play involving decisive action and forward movement while the full moon is all about honouring your emotions, witnessing them, surrendering and flowing with them and your circumstances.
Nature itself embodies the masculine and feminine as nature bursts forth in spring and summer, growing and thriving (masculine) then surrendering and resting during fall and and winter (feminine).
Even our Heavenly Father embodies both the masculine and feminine which can be witnessed just within His creation, spending the first 6 days creating and then establishing the day of rest on the 7th day. It is important to note that God is Spirit and as such is neither specifically male nor female (John 4:24) and upon creating Adam & Eve declared “in the image of God He created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27) One can also witness that feminine and masculine references are both utilized in scripture describing God: “God comforts His people like a mother comforts her children” (Isaiah 66:13) “Jesus longed for the people of Jerusalem, like a mother hen longs to gather her chicks under her wings” (Luke 13:34) “For the Lord is our judge, The Lord is our lawgiver, The Lord is our King; He will save us” (Isa 33:22) “...when God arose to judgement, To save all the humble of the earth.” (Ps 76:9)
In the Bible you can clearly take note of his masculine action guiding and protecting His people, all the while also being open to receiving their gifts and praise, nurturing them, and standing by watching over them as they exercised their free will.
Finally it is important to note the six virtues that one of God should pursue are righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness (1 Tim 6:11)
And, the fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal 5:22-23)
These alone embody the masculine and feminine energy.
It is a tragic world we live in where our men have been shamed and ridiculed for being sensitive, caring, and thoughtful, whereas women are dismissed for their nurturing sides, and we need to recognize and embody both of these traits within ourselves so as to step into our true power and ease as God designed for us. I do wish to note: I am by no means endorsing androgyny of all. It is important to recognize we are all unique individuals and in such will have certain natural impulses, characteristics, and traits for a reason which may manifest as being particularly more masculine and feminine. However, it is when we are purposefully subduing and repressing certain traits that it becomes an issue, in addition to recognizing that there is a time and a season for everything and it is important to honour this duality within ourselves no matter which side happens to be more dominant within our persona.
A few ways you can start to honour the masculine and feminine within your own life include:
Simply recognizing and honouring the masculine and feminine within yourself; forgiving yourself when you dismissed these dual energies, and calling them forth into your life.
Looking to the moon phases to start acting upon these energies, in harmony with nature, and putting a stronger emphasis on resting, recharging, and tuning in during the full moon then taking decisive action and forward motion during the new moon.
Being patient and gentle with yourself as you open to this energy.
It is important to recognize that if the feminine has been buried for a while there may be a surging of emotions that spill forward. Give yourself time to sit with those emotions, to honour and release not only the emotions themselves but any of the uncomfortability, shame, or stigma that may accompany these emotions. On the flip side if you have shrunk away from the masculine recognize that taking decisive action, being bold and brave, may also feel uncomfortable. Break it down into smaller bites of action rather than charging forward like a lion, all the while honouring and releasing any nervousness, stigma, or beliefs that may arise during this transition.
An incredible resource to work through to witness and release the stigma keeping you from embodying the masculine & feminine in your life is my free workbook – Limitless Freedom.
This resource contains in-depth journaling exercises to recognize the perceptions and beliefs you have embodied during your lifetime from yourself, or others, all the while walking you through gently transforming them.
In this you will no longer be subconsciously held back from stepping into a fulfilled, authentic, empowered life tuned in to the harmony and flow within your own body, nature, and the Divine.
